★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

The BAKFlip tonneau cover delivers maximum truck bed security without sacrificing versatility. We engineered this hard folding cover with interlocking aluminum panels that fold completely open for full bed access or close flat to protect cargo from weather and theft.

Our exclusive hinge design allows the panels to rest against your cab, giving you unrestricted hauling space when you need it. The matte black finish resists UV damage and maintains a low-profile appearance that complements every truck style. Installation requires no drilling—our clamp-on rail system attaches directly to your bed rails in under an hour.

Aluminum panel construction & durability

We build every BAKFlip with aircraft-grade aluminum panels that resist denting, cracking, and corrosion. The powder-coat finish bonds molecularly to the aluminum surface, creating a protective barrier against road salt, UV rays, and temperature extremes. Each panel measures precisely to interlock with its neighbor, eliminating gaps where water could seep through.

The reinforced hinge points use stainless steel hardware that won’t rust or seize, even after years of daily folding cycles. We tension-test every hinge assembly to 10,000 open-close cycles before it leaves our facility. The panel edges feature rubber seals that compress when closed, forming a continuous weatherproof barrier around the entire bed perimeter.

Installation & truck bed compatibility
Sizing & fit

Installation & truck bed compatibility

The clamp-on rail system fits most full-size and mid-size truck beds without modification. We include adjustable clamps that attach to your existing bed rails, so you never drill holes or compromise your truck’s resale value. The entire installation process takes 45-60 minutes with basic hand tools.

Our compatibility guide covers over 200 truck models from 2005 to current year. You’ll need to verify your bed length—we manufacture versions for 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8-foot beds. The rails adjust laterally to accommodate variations in bed width, and our included spacers account for trucks with bed liners or spray-in coatings.

Styling

Weather sealing & cargo protection

The dual-action tailgate seal is where our bakflip tonneau cover outperforms soft roll-up designs. We use a two-stage EPDM rubber seal that compresses against both the tailgate and the final panel edge, creating a labyrinth seal that blocks wind-driven rain. The seal remains flexible in temperatures from -40°F to 150°F, so it won’t crack during winter storage or summer heat.

Every panel joint features an integrated water channel that redirects moisture toward the bed drain holes. We designed the channel profile after extensive water testing—even during pressure-washer tests simulating highway rain at 70 mph, less than two ounces of water entered the bed over a 10-minute cycle.

Holds up better than my last soft cover
I replaced a roll-up cover that leaked every time it rained. This one keeps everything bone dry, even during heavy storms. The aluminum feels solid when you close it, and I like that I can fold it completely open when I haul plywood.

Installation was easier than expected
I'm not mechanically inclined, but I got this installed in about 50 minutes following the instructions. No drilling required was a huge selling point for me. The clamps tightened down securely and haven't budged in three months of daily use.

Perfect for my landscaping business
We haul dirty equipment all week, and this cover wipes clean in seconds. The dust sealing is impressive—my tools stay cleaner than they did with my old tonneau. It also supports the weight of a push mower when we need to stack gear.

No regrets upgrading from soft vinyl
The hard panels give me peace of mind when parking in public lots. I keep expensive work tools in the bed, and this cover looks secure enough that people don't bother trying. The low profile also improved my highway mileage by about 1 mpg.

Handles Minnesota winters without issue
I was worried about the hinges freezing, but a quick spray of silicone before winter started solved that. The cover handled snow loads fine, and the seals stayed flexible even during negative temperatures. No leaks when the snow melted either.

Great balance of security and convenience
I like that I can open just the back panel for groceries or fold the whole thing for bigger loads. The one-hand latch makes it easy to secure when I'm carrying stuff. Build quality feels like it'll last years.

Good to know

Common questions about your BAKFlip cover

Yes, our adjustable clamp system accommodates most drop-in and spray-in bed liners. The clamps include spacers that adjust for liner thickness up to half an inch. If you have an oversized drop-in liner with tall rails, you may need to trim the liner edges slightly for the cover to sit flush. We recommend measuring your bed rail width after the liner is installed and comparing it to our compatibility specifications.

The cover rails attach to the bed's stake pocket holes and top rail edge, so the liner won't interfere with installation. Most customers complete installation without liner modifications.

We don't recommend driving with panels folded open. The panels are designed to rest against the cab during loading and unloading, not to withstand highway wind forces in the open position. Driving with folded panels can stress the hinges and create dangerous visibility issues if panels shift.

If you need to haul tall cargo that prevents the cover from closing, remove the cover entirely rather than leaving it partially open. The rail system detaches in minutes without tools, and you can reinstall it when you're done hauling.

Measure your truck bed from the inside of the bulkhead (cab wall) to the inside of the closed tailgate. Round to the nearest half-foot—most trucks use either 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, or 8-foot beds. You can also check your truck's door jamb sticker or owner's manual for the factory bed length specification.

Ordering the wrong length is the most common installation mistake. A cover that's too short will leave a gap at the tailgate, while an oversized cover won't fit between the cab and tailgate. Our compatibility tool on the product page matches your truck's year, make, and model to the correct bed length automatically.

The cover latches automatically when closed, securing the panels in place. However, this isn't a keyed lock—determined thieves can pry the panels open with tools. We designed the cover primarily for weather protection and casual security, not as a vault.

For high-security needs, we recommend pairing the cover with a locking tailgate and avoiding leaving high-value items visible in your bed. The solid aluminum construction and low profile do deter casual theft better than soft roll-up covers, since it's not immediately obvious to passersby what's underneath.

Yes, we sell individual replacement panels and hardware kits. Each panel is independently removable by pulling the hinge pins, so you don't need to replace the entire cover if one panel cracks or dents. Replacement panels ship pre-finished in matte black and include new seals and hinge hardware.

Our lifetime warranty covers panel integrity against manufacturing defects, so if a panel fails due to material or workmanship issues, we'll replace it at no charge. Damage from accidents, overloading, or misuse isn't covered, but replacement panels are priced affordably for out-of-warranty repairs.

Most customers report a 0.5 to 1.5 mpg improvement in highway fuel economy after installing our cover. The low-profile design reduces aerodynamic drag by smoothing airflow over the bed, eliminating the turbulent wake that uncovered beds create. Your actual improvement depends on driving habits, speed, and truck aerodynamics.

City mileage typically shows little change since aerodynamic drag isn't significant at low speeds. The improvement becomes noticeable on highway trips above 55 mph. Customers who drive long distances regularly see the fuel savings offset the cover cost within the first year.

The folded panels rest approximately 12 inches from the cab wall when fully open. If you have a toolbox, headache rack, or fifth-wheel hitch, measure the clearance to ensure the folded stack won't interfere. The panels fold at a 70-degree angle, so vertical obstructions taller than 18 inches may prevent full opening.

Some customers with tall toolboxes choose to fold only three panels instead of all four, leaving the front panel closed. This still provides excellent bed access while avoiding clearance conflicts. You can also remove the cover entirely in 10 minutes if you need unrestricted space for a specific haul.
